Steve Lacy Redeemed After Fans Learn His Songs
Steve Lacy is currently on tour for his sophomore album “Gemini Rights.”
The last time a Steve Lacy concert went viral, fans at his show didn’t know his lyrics. That all changed two weeks later at his Dallas show where fans recited the words wholeheartedly to redeem him.
In the video, Lacy stood in awe as his audience finished the rest of the verse for him, then asked the audience to “Post that … on TikTok!”
TikTok seemed to love the crowd’s participation as the comments claimed Dallas to be his best show yet.
“Dallas carried his whole tour we were the best audience,” said @elliotbranded on TikTok.
While @jacquieinthealps emphasized that “this is what a concert should be like.”
Some were shocked at the satisfying interaction considering fans at previous shows failed the indie artist when they couldn’t sing acapella unlike Dallas. Silence was expected, but not a response anybody truly anticipated for at the height of his career.
A viral clip at an early October show from Lacy’s “Give You the World Tour” captured the Maryland crowd who failed to sing past the chorus of the artist’s most popular song “Bad Habit.”
The song charted #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and has flooded TikTok with over 500,000 videos of people using the single. With an app like TikTok, reaching an abundance of attention overnight happens often. Although many are shocked by the clip, you have to remember his new fans are from TikTok, where only the song’s chorus went viral. So is it really a surprise?
Certain supporters expressed their disappointment in the crowd via Twitter and are vocal that he’s made more than just this one hit.
“i love tiktok but it has actually ruined…a lot of things. like having the chance to get steve lacy concert tickets. that video i just watched of people not knowing any of his songs besides bad habit? is so sad bc his music is so good.”
Some even ask how people spent so much time getting ready to still not be prepared.
“Nah this is actually so crazy. So you’re telling me you woke up early to queue for tickets online, spent your (parents’) money, got your outfit, traveled to the show… and in between all of that time you didn’t learn one other word of the song than the HOOK? THE AUDACITY!”
