Toro y Moi, aka Chaz Bear (born Chazwick Bundick), has had a long and successful career. With his highly anticipated seventh studio album “MAHAL” out now, Toro y Moi commits to building a community using the power of love.

Toro y Moi’s last album, “Outer Peace,” released in 2019 — a different time compared to what people have been through the past two years.

“MAHAL” which translates to “love” in Taglog, features guest appearances from the likes of Unknown Mortal Orchestra, who appear on the opening track, “The Medium,” Bay Area producer Salami Rose Joe Louis, Sofie, and the jazz group The Mattson 2.

The albums first two singles, “Postman” and “Magazine,” released simultaneously. “Postman” is a stripped-back track that consists of a groovy bassline and Toro y Moi’s naturally soft voice, occasionally merging with the jazzy drums. While “Magazine” is a more saturated track featuring Salami Rose Joe Louis. Toro y Moi sings about imminent environmental issues and introspection on top of the gentle synthy guitar backing from Salami Rose Joe Louis.

MAHAL is out now via Dead Oceans.
