Wake up on the right side of the bed with one, or all, of these morning rituals.

Sometimes we roll out of bed half awake to get through the door. But we can do better. Establishing a good morning routine is the foundation for a good day. So here are some of my best tips. But first, make sure you are getting a full night’s rest because for any good morning routine a full night of rest is always a prerequisite.

Stretching

When waking up after a long night of rest you feel fossilized. So, start your mornings with movement. Do some stretching or watch a guided Youtube video stretch, maybe do a mini workout but whatever it is, get the blood flowing. Here’s one of my favorite stretching videos you’ll catch me doing when I have the time whether it be morning or night.

Meditation

Take some deep breaths to calm your mind from your busy day. Not necessarily a full meditation, and if you can’t do that there are some great apps for quick mindfulness such as the Calm app. Even Youtube has some great guided meditation videos.

Reading

Grab a book, sit down and read some pages. This can be any book you like. Reading is so good for you, it improves your focus and your knowledge. Expand your vocabulary with these new books and find a word you maybe don’t know or hear often to learn more about it.

Fun

Have some fun in your mornings, maybe this means listening to a podcast during your shower, or while brushing your teeth. It’s great to stay informed so podcasts like “The Daily” or listening to your NPR affiliate can help you keep up on current events. But maybe you just want to chill out by lounging around. Is trying out a new breakfast recipe your type of fun? If so, sites like Allrecipes are a great place to start.
