Doing her part to promote literacy in under resourced communities, a 15-year-old avid reader founded the Los Angeles-based Bookworm Global organization earlier this year to collect books to donate to school libraries in California.

Alana Weisberg’s initiative solicited book donations through social media and collected about 20,000 books to give to various schools, according to ABC 7.

“When I’m bored, I go and I read a book and I want someone to be excited to read and want to go read in their free time and be able to love reading as much as I do,” Weisberg said.

ICEF Inglewood Elementary was gifted 2,000 of the books.

“During this pandemic, we’ve been struggling with trying to find ways to put books in our kids’ hands without depleting our whole library,” said Nicole Peters, principal at ICEF Inglewood Elementary.”
