Choosing Walking Over Driving

Choosing Walking Over Driving

For the next few months, I’m planning to stay as far away from cars as possible.

When I received my drivers’ license, I felt a new sense of freedom. But shortly after I started driving, I realized that the teenage dream, isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. I haven’t even been behind the wheel for a year, and I’ve already been involved in two accidents.

I decided to take a break from driving in favor of a more traditional approach to transportation. Walking. And honestly, I’ve never felt freer. In a car, I miss things.

Flowers look as if they’re all the same color.

The other day, I took a walk on a familiar road in Berkeley. A road that I’ve driven down many times before. And though walking takes longer, it’s definitely less stressful. I wasn’t worried about parking, other peoples’ driving habits or backseat drivers.

I do plan to get behind the wheel again, but taking a lesson from my new found love of walking, I won’t be in a rush when I do.
