I have mixed feelings about California’s current mask policy — where fully vaccinated people don’t have to wear masks outdoors or in most indoor spaces.
I work at a spa part-time, which means I’m constantly working with the public. At first, despite California’s new mask policy, my job was still requiring everyone to wear a mask in common spaces — whether vaccinated or not.
On the first day the policy went into effect, a couple came in with no masks. I immediately tensed up because I wasn’t sure how they’d react when I said they had to wear one in our facility. Luckily, they ended up complying.
But without the official government mandate, I’m concerned about enforcing our mask rules to guests who may not agree with us. The Delta variant is spreading at an alarming rate. And with the news of L.A. County reinstating masks indoors for everyone, I can’t help but think that maybe the state should do the same.
