The usually quiet community of Thousand Oaks, CA and the surrounding colleges and universities are reeling from a late-night mass shooting that left 13 dead, including the gunman.

The details of the tragedy at the Borderline Bar & Grill are already well known. The attack took place on College Night at the bar, which attracts country music fans from multiple local schools such as Pepperdine University and California Lutheran University. The 28-year-old suspect, a Marine vet, apparently used a legally obtained handgun with an illegally extended magazine clip. Among the dead was a 29-year veteran deputy of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.

One dark detail: some at Borderline are reporting that they also survived the Las Vegas mass shooting of October 2017.

YR Media is monitoring social media reaction, particularly the account of The Echo, the student newspaper at California Lutheran University that is bringing regular updates to the unfolding story.
