Winter Olympics: Chloe Kim Takes Snowboarding Gold, Twice

She’s the first woman to win gold back-to-back medals in the snowboarding halfpipe.

Chloe Kim made history Thursday by earning her second gold medal for Team USA in Beijing. She’s the first woman to win gold back-to-back medals in the snowboarding halfpipe.

Her pre-competition practice was shaky, but the 21-year-old landed a winning score of 94 meaning she was guaranteed to earn a medal. In the contest, snowboarders get three chances to place, but Kim only needed one and no other snowboarder came close to her score.

"I'm not gonna lie, I had one of the worst practices I've ever had…but when I was getting ready to drop in I just reminded myself – It's a brand new run."

In 2018, the Southern California native became the youngest woman at 17 to win an Olympic gold medal.
