Phi Kappa Psi

I am not a judicial expert but I believe it is worse to convict someone who is innocent than it is to let someone guilty go free.  Earlier the University of Virginia chapter of Phi Kappa Psi launched a law suit against Rolling Stone Magazine for their earlier retracted article “A Rape On Campus” after the Columbia Journalism Review wrote a  report debunking everything that went wrong.   I would like to note that this is about Rolling Stone Magazine and the one who wrote the story and not about Jackie the victim of an alleged sexual assault by members of the fraternity Phi Kappa Psi. Their faulty reporting led to multiple students losing their scholarships, greek row being shutdown and property damage to the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity house. The worst part of this debacle is that it was extremely avoidable.  If the reporter had investigated some very important details she would have realised things did not add up. Phi Kappa Psi did not hold an event on September 28, 2012 the night in which the alleged assault had happened. One of the perpetrators was not even a member of Phi Kappa Psi.   The article from Rolling Stone Magazine is a major case of journalistic negligence. This story also undermines victims of sexual assault as it creates a case of crying wolf.   It is the medias responsibility to report the truth regardless of political ideological bias, in this case the reporter failed to cover the other side of the story and overlooked many key detail.
