Megan Thee Stallion faced unexpected challenges with her upcoming album, “MEGAN,” due to an issue with an anime sample. The 18-track album, set to release on Friday, was nearly finished when a production company issued a demand on Tuesday: remove all character names from the sampled record or forfeit the soundbite.

Here is what Rap-Up reported on the newly developed hurdle for the Texas artist:

During an Instagram Live session before her Dallas concert on Wednesday, Megan shared her frustrations. “I’m not talking bad because I’m very grateful. Y’all know how I told y’all I got an anime sample on my album? This has probably been the hardest song to try to have on my album, but like I said, I’m not complaining ’cause I’m grateful,” she said.

Megan didn’t reveal the anime series used in the sample but mentioned that using character names or cosplaying them in music videos was forbidden. “Last night, we get an email. They said, ‘Actually, I need you to take out the names of the characters that’s in the show.’ That’s the whole song. That makes the song make sense,” she explained.

Despite the setback, the 29-year-old star remains determined to keep the sample. “I really wanted this sample. I really wanted to do it, so I’m doing everything I [can] to keep it,” she added. “But change the names? Change the names the day before the album [is supposed to come] out? That was nuts.”

The album “MEGAN” features collaborations with Kyle Richh, UGK, Victoria Monét, and GloRilla, with whom Megan worked on “Wanna Be.” The LP will also include pre-release singles “Cobra,” “HISS,” and “BOA.” Following its release, Megan is set to open at the 2024 BET Awards on June 30.

Her “Hot Girl Summer Tour” will continue in Atlanta on July 2 at the State Farm Arena, followed by a performance at the PNC Music Pavilion in Charlotte, North Carolina on July 3.
