DeKalb, ILDisney+ recently announced production is underway for its newest upcoming movie, “Sneakerella.” It features “Little Fire’s Everywhere” actress Lexi Underwood, “It’s” Chosen Jacobs and NBA superstar John Salley.

The film will take the classic Cinderella tale and turn it into a pop/hip-hop musical that is set in the avant-garde street-sneaker subculture of New York City.

Jacobs plays El, an aspiring sneaker designer from Queens who works as a stock boy in the shoe store that his late mother owned. He hides his dreams of being a shoe designer from his stepfather and his discouraging stepbrothers.

Underwood plays Kira King, the daughter of pro athlete and sneaker tycoon Darius King, played by Salley. Throughout the film, sparks fly as Kira and El discover their shared love for sneakers.

Sneakerella brings a vibrant, modern approach to a beloved story by suggesting that magic is the result of hard work and determination and exists within each of us,” said Lauren Kisilevsky, vice president, Original Movies, Disney Channel, according to Deadline. “Liz Allen’s unique vision, Lexi and Chosen’s amazing chemistry, the incredible music and the gravity-defying choreography, will bring this movie to life and inspire audiences of all ages.”

Underwood is best known for her role as Pearl Warren in “Little Fires Everywhere” and has been featured in “Criminal Minds,” “The Good Doctor” and “Raven’s Home.”

Jacobs is known for his role as Will Grover in the CBS television series “Hawaii Five-O” and his role as Mike Hanlon in Stephen King’s “It.”

Salley played for the Detroit Pistons, Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers, to name a few. He was also a talk show host for Fox Sports News Show “The Best Damn Sports Show Period.” He is also known for his roles in “Bad Boys II,” “Confessions of a Shopaholic” and “Black Dynamite.”
