What Hobbies? It’s Junior Year

If there’s one thing that junior year taught me, it’s that homework and grades come first. Hobbies would have to wait.

I just finished my junior year of high school. And I’d figured that even if junior coursework was challenging, I could somehow fit my hobbies in — I was wrong.

I’ve always been an intrepid reader, charging into life with my trusty bookmark and glasses.

But within the first month of junior year, I realized I had no time to set aside for reading. On some days, I didn’t even have time to sleep. And on days I thought I could rest, there was often some other coursework waiting for me.

Of course, being a junior wasn’t all bad. I actually loved learning calculus and enjoyed going to prom.

But it was clear I had no time to enjoy my hobbies. And now, as I gear up for senior year and college apps, I don’t even know if I have one anymore.

I felt forced to leave my hobbies by the wayside. And it’s disappointing knowing that in the future, it may only get worse in my professional career. Though I’m trying to get back into reading over the summer, I’m worried that it may never be the same.
