The CW’s high school football drama “All American” will give more than a nod to the culture of Historically Black Colleges and Universities in a potential new spinoff series called “All American: Homecoming.”
The new show will star Geffri Maya’s recurring character, Simone Hicks, who’s a hopeful tennis player, along with an elite baseball player from Chicago as they make their way to a prestigious HBCU.
Maya joined “All American” last season and appeared in the season three premiere last month. She has also appeared in “Private Practice” and “black-ish.”
“All American” showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll will write and executive produce “Homecoming” alongside the original show’s team.
The third season premiere of “All American” recorded its biggest audience to date. The show follows an American football player from South Los Angeles who’s recruited to play in Beverly Hills. The stark differences between life in Crenshaw and Beverly Hills collide within the show.
“All American: Homecoming” will be one of several shows based on life at HBCUs, including “School Daze,” “The Quad,” “Stomp the Yard,” “Drumline” and “A Different World.”
