While the future of the COVID-19 pandemic is uncertain, Dr. Anthony Fauci predicts there will be new variants of the virus.

“I think we will see ‘blips’ where there are more cases going forward as new variants emerge,” said Fauci, according to Deseret News

He also noted variants will rise in places where “you have large pockets of unvaccinated people that give the virus room to evolve.”

Fauci’s insight comes as COVID variants continue to pop up throughout the country. Some are sub variants tied to the omicron variant, which led to an uptick in cases in the winter of 2021-2022.
